Northern Premier League Division One North side New Mills ended their miserable run of 26 straight defeats last night when they drew 2-2 with Witton Albion.
Their run has gained nationwide coverage with some people rather harshly describing the Derbyshire club as “the worst team in England”.
After the game New Mills manager Garry Brown said, “The ‘worst team in England’ tag had driven me. I know we are not and I think we can still surprise a few people this season. New Mills is no longer a place to get easy points.
“It was a fantastic performance and just what the lads deserve.”
Despite gaining their first point of the season last night, New Mills continue to face an uphill battle to stay in the Northern Premier League Division One North. They are 15 points off safety and are not helped by their -72 goal difference.
Nevertheless we are all hoping that last night’s result was the start of the great escape!
