Seconds after Manchester City lifted the Premier League title to bring the curtain down on a dramatic 2018-19 season; teams would have been immediately reflecting on their own seasons and looking at what can be done to change their fortunes next season.
The answer most clubs will come to is by heavily investing
in players; searching high and low across the whole of Europe. However, for
some clubs, the answer to their prayers may already be within the ranks of
their youth teams. But, which players can Premier League fans expect to be
seeing more of next season?
Mason Greenwood
(Manchester United)
The Manchester United fans’ have been crying out to see the
17-year-old in the senior team all season, and they finally got their way when
Greenwood made his senior debut on the final day of the Premier League season
against Cardiff City. Despite it being another disappointing result for the Red
Devils, the flashes of brilliance from the young striker was eye-catching.
He also played his part as a late substitute in their famous
Champions League win over PSG. However, it has been in the youth setup where
Greenwood has shone this season. He had scored 15 goals in 18 appearances in
the U18 Premier League; while he also scored three goals in two games before
United were knocked out of the FA Youth Cup. He is a potential star, and with
United possibly selling Romelu Lukaku over the summer, Greenwood could be given
his chance at Old Trafford.
Rhian Brewster
(Liverpool)
2018 has been a relatively quiet year for the Liverpool
striker after he has suffered with nightmare injuries which have limited his
playing chances. However, the 2019-20 season could be the time when he can
flourish in Jurgen Klopp’s side. Should he finally be given his chance next
season you would likely see him among the favourites in the first goalscorer
markets, and, punters could take advantage of the ComeOn voucher code
to ensure maximum profits are achieved.
Brewster played a vital role in England’s 2017 U17 World Cup
win and has represented Liverpool at every level possible. He picked up a
severe injury against Manchester City U23’s which meant he was only able to
make two appearances in Premier League 2 this season, but there is no question
about his quality.
His pace and directness will mean that he fits directly into
Klopp’s tactics, and should Daniel Sturridge leave Liverpool over the summer;
they already have the perfect replacement in Brewster waiting in the wings for
his spot.
Aaron Connolly
(Brighton & Hove Albion)
There is little doubt that younger players from teams
outside of the top six have a better opportunity for minutes, and Connolly
could be a player that Brighton fans have been dreaming about. His record in
Premier League 2 is second to none; as he has netted eleven goals in 15
appearances.
It has been reported that Manchester United, Manchester City
and Hoffenheim are all looking at the 19-year-old, but should Brighton keep
hold of their man he could be the ideal replacement for Glenn Murray next
season. The announcement as Graham Potter as the club’s next manager will be a
welcome one for all youth players at the club since he is known for giving young
players their chance.
