With a nickname like ‘The Madman’, Marcelo ‘El Loco’ Bielsa is never going to be one for long-term stability – and so it proved after quitting Lazio following just two days in charge.

The 60-year-old has never lasted longer than two years at one club, so to some his latest resignation may come as no surprise – but his tenth spell in management will go down as one of the shortest reigns in football history.

In an official club statement earlier today Lazio said: “We note with amazement the resignation of Mr Marcelo Bielsa…in a clear violation of the commitments undertaken in the agreements signed last week.”

I Biancocelesti are considering taking legal action against the Argentine and have appointed Simone Inzaghi as his replacement.

Bielsa has previous with dramatic departures; while at Marseille, he shocked reporters one game into the 2015/16 season, saying: “I’ve finished my work here; I’m going home.”

The former Chile, Espanyol and Bilbao boss is reportedly in contention to take charge of Argentina’s national side for a second time.

At six years his previous spell in charge of la Albiceleste was his longest in management, with speculation mounting this is the reason behind his speedy departure.

Bielsa is known to be an influential manager, with players often saying he has changed the way they approach the game. However, after just 48 hours it’s doubtful Lazio players will be under the same impression!
