Despite their future successes, several famous footballers regarded their first selection for England Schoolboys as one of their happiest memories. It would mark the moment for them when a professional career in football became a distinct possibility.
Raich Carter was one of England’s greatest footballers of the 1930s and 1940s. The inside-forward captained Sunderland to the League title in 1936 and FA Cup victory the following year. He also enjoyed an FA Cup triumph with Derby County in 1946.
