It’s never easy taking a managerial job mid-season and moving to another country only adds to the challenge.
But when Manchester United, even this latest underachieving version, come calling, it’s difficult to say no.
Ruben Amorim couldn’t resist the opportunity of trying to rejuvenate the Red Devils and will have already seen in his opening couple of matches – a 1-1 draw at Ipswich in the Premier League and 3-2 home success against Norwegian side Bodo/Glimt in the Europa League – that there is a massive amount of work to do.
He quickly needs to get his philosophy over to his new charges and see who is willing to roll up their sleeves and battle for the badge.
In this edition, Robert J Wilson looks at the magnitude of the task ahead for the young Portuguese boss. We also cover a host of other topics, so we’d like to think we’ve got something for everyone within our pages.

We read everything that comes in and use the best stuff each issue. Please do remember that as the magazine is printed only every six weeks or so, we can’t use timesensitive pieces. We just want stuff that is interesting, funny, poignant, insightful, or maybe even all four.
That aside, the main rule is there are no rules: as long as your piece is about football (pretty crucial, that) and on the right side of legal, we’ll consider it for publication.
Finally, we’d like to wish all our readers a great festive season – with plenty of football thrown in.
