Tony Carr is seen by East Londoners as a legend for the work he has done at the Boleyn Ground. But he should really be seen as a legend across England.
Carr is the reason why West Ham United are revered as the Academy of Football. The former West Ham and Barnet centre forward was appointed as the Director of Youth Development at Upton Park in 1973, two years after having to hang up his boots following a career threatening injury.
