MICHAEL GRIMES TAKES A TRIP DOWN MEMORY LANE...

THE Isle of Sheppey is off the Kent coast in the Thames Estuary. The name derives from old English meaning Sheep Island and it’s separated from the mainland by the Swale channel.
Until 1860 the only way over was via ferry. Now there are two bridges, the Kingsferry Bridge and the more modern Sheppey Crossing.
So, geography lesson over, why am I writing about a place and team approximately 40 miles from London where I live?
