COLIN ALLAN RECALLS WHEN HULL CITY ENJOYED TAKING PART IN AN INNOVATIVE PRE-SEASON COMPETITION HALF A CENTURY AGO

FOR a club which had spent most of their existence in the old Second and Third Divisions, the Watney Cup gave Hull City the chance of winning a trophy both in 1970 and 1973.
It was a pre-season competition for eight teams, two from each of the Football League’s four divisions, which was inaugurated in 1970.
